The Biography of Paul Grieco
Author and Photographer
Paul Grieco is an award-winning photographer whose lifelong passion for visual storytelling began at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he studied at the School of Graphic Arts and Printing. After earning his BS degree in 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. From 1969 to 1970, Paul served in Vietnam as the lead photojournalist and Non-Commissioned Officer for the 18th Engineer Battalion's Public Information Office. In addition to capturing images that documented daily life and military operations, he also managed darkroom operations—ensuring that the published stories of his unit were preserved with accuracy and impact in magazines, newspapers and newsletters.
When his military service concluded, Paul launched what would become a distinguished 50-year career in printing and publishing. His technical expertise and artistic eye quickly brought him into collaboration with some of the most respected organizations in the world, including National Geographic, Time-Life Books, The Smithsonian Institution, The New York Times, The National Wildlife Federation, Audience Magazine, Avon Products, and The City University of New York to name a few. In each role, Paul became known for his ability to preserve the integrity and quality of images—helping photographers, editors, and publishers achieve exceptional results in books, magazines, and a wide range of visual media.
A Personal Reflection
For Paul, photography has always been more than the click of a shutter—it is a way of meditation, of deep breathing, of slowing down, and of recognizing life's meaning in fleeting moments. Whether in the chaos of Vietnam or the quiet beauty of a landscape, the act of making a photograph has been his way of honoring life as it unfolds. Through his images, Paul hopes to encourage viewers to look more closely, to notice details they might otherwise overlook, and to feel a connection to people, places, and experiences beyond their own. His deepest wish is that each photograph not only resonates visually, but also stirs emotion, reflection and memory—leaving the viewer with a sense of wonder and a glimpse of the shared gifts from our God… Gifts that bind all of mankind to the world and universe.
