In 1990, I embarked on a journey from Sedona through Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon—my first encounter with the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Arizona. As a New Yorker, I was instantly captivated by the immense scale and beauty of the American Southwest. Inspired by the history of explorers like Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, who sought the fabled “Seven Cities of Gold” and stood in awe at the rim of the Grand Canyon, I too was humbled by the land’s grandeur and mystery. Knowing that Indigenous peoples have called this canyon home for over 10,000 years deepened my sense of reverence and connection to this sacred place. Using Kodak’s High-Speed Infrared Film, I was able to capture the hidden textures and ethereal light of the region—details often invisible to the naked eye. Northern Arizona is more than a destination; it’s an experience - one that touches the soul.
